Setting up proxies in Chrome and Chromium-based browsers

Chromium-based browsers are programs that are built on the basis of the Google Chrome source code and operate on similar principles to Chrome. These browsers include:

  • Vivaldi;
  • Brave;
  • Microsoft Edge;
  • Opera;
  • Epic Privacy Browser;
  • SlimBrowser;
  • Torch;
  • Comodo Dragon and others.

The proxy settings for these browsers are generally the same and go through the system settings, as we mentioned above. And to go to the settings directly from the browser, you need to take a few steps:

  1. Go to the settings.
  2. In the search for settings, write "proxy" or go to the "system" section.
    Go to the "System" section
  3. Select "Open proxy port settings for the computer".
    Open connection settings on the computer

The browser will automatically open the corresponding settings section where you need to enter the proxy values.

But you can configure proxies directly within the browser, not in the system. This is useful if you want to use a proxy to connect only to specific sites, not all at once.

To configure the proxy individually, use special extensions. For example, in Google Chrome it is ProxyControl or ProxySwitcher. Similar programs are available in the extension store and in other chromium-based browsers.

The extension works as follows: you specify the IP and ports of the assigned proxy, and then control it with hotkeys.

Proxy settings in the Proxy Control extension

If you need to access a website using a proxy, you enable it with a combination of keys. If you need to access it with your real IP, you disable it with another combination of keys.
